Balenciaga Sues Steve Madden Over copycat Bag

Paris-based fashion house Balenciaga has filed a lawsuit against accessories designer Steve Madden, citing an exaggerated resemblance between their handbags.
A fashion staple, Balenciaga's Motorcycle handbag (pictured above) launched in 2000 and retails for £945, but Steve Madden has released a budget-friendly version for $90 (£54). However, the latter has been deemed as a "studied copy" of the original, featuring overly similar design elements and shapes.
The lawsuit said such similarity can confuse customers and result in a negative impact on the French house's reputation and sales. This is the second time the US designer faces a complaint from Balenciaga after being accused of "copying" a pair of shoes from their autumn/winter 07 collection.
