Ovett woman airlifted after mower crash, burn | Free News

An Ovett woman was seriously burned and injured when the riding lawnmower she was on overturned on her then ignited dry leaves in a brush pile in front of her residence off Highway 15 South on Saturday.
Terry Denton, 62, was airlifted from the scene after volunteers from Glade Fire Department, EMServ Ambulance, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the call just before 3 p.m.
When they arrived, the zero-turn mower had turned over, lost gas and ignited dry brush, causing what were described as third-degree burns.
Volunteers were initially dispatched to the call for the fire, but when they arrived, they discovered the victim and began rendering medical aid in addition to extinguishing the flames.
MHP shut down the highway for a short time while firefighters created a landing zone for Rescue 7 to land alongside the roadway to pick up the patient.
No update on Denton’s condition was available, but Pastor Ricky Mitchell of Good Hope Baptist Church posted an “urgent prayer request,” noting that she had been “severely burned” in the incident.
“She and her husband are both confident in God’s power to bless. The family asks for your prayers during her time of recovery!”
